There is no evidence regarding the origin of this extraordinary icon that furnish the Basilica of The Nativity in Bethlehem, placed on a stand at the right side of the southern entrance of the Holy Cave of Nativity. Reportedly, it originated from Russia, a gift of the Russian Empress Catherine, who according to tradition, offered her Czar Clothes and jewelry in order to “dress up” the icon.
