Virgin Mary
Virgin Mary
The Virgin Mary, Mother of God, was a first century Galilean woman of Nazareth. Our lady of Vladimir, the daughter of Saint Anna, the patron Saint of Mothers and her father Joachim, a carpenter. Anna and Joachim were known to be devoted and attentive parents, escaping to Egypt as their home land was occupied by Romans.
Mary is then betrothed to Joseph. She was 15 years old when she first received a calling from Christ. Learning that she would become the mother of the coming Messiah. Mary conceived Jesus through the Holy Spirit while still a virgin, and accompanied Joseph to Bethlehem, where Jesus was then born.
Joseph, being the ever kind and loving person that he was, decided to quietly divorce Mary. He was then visited by an angel telling him he is to raise the child as his own, protect him and love him. They go on to have a very happy marriage. Theotokos icons have long since aided in the devotion to the Mother of God of Vladimir. Explore our selection of Mother of God, Marian icons.
