Description
Saint Valeria or Valerie was an early martyr near Milan, she was the wife of Saint Vitalis of Milan and the mother of Saint Gervasius and Saint Protasius. According to one tradition, shortly after the martyrdom of her husband, Saint Vitalis of Milan, in Ravenna, she refused to join in a celebration and sacrifice to pagan gods, and was severely beaten, causing her death two days later in Milan 62 A.D.
Saint Valeria’s relics are in St. Joseph Co-Cathedral in Thibodaux Louisiana. The relics arrived on April 18, 1868 from New Orleans by the steamboat Nina Simmes by way of Bayou Lafourche. Since then Saint Valeria is known as the Patroness of Thibodaux and invokes protections from floods and storms. Feast Day is April 28th for Roman Catholic Church
