Saint Joseph was the betrothed and not the spouse of the Virgin Mary and the Holy Child, following the invocation of the Angel. The descendant of David, he lived in Nazareth and was a carpenter when Virgin Mary was 13 years old. Saint Zacharias, chief priest of the temple and guardian of the Virgin Mary asked Joseph to protect Mary when she became an orphan.
