Saint Sophia

Sophia was the widowed mother of three holy Martyrs in Italy. Herself and her daughters, Faith, Hope, and Love, were known for their steadfast devotion to God.

The three daughters expressed their loyalty to God so unwaveringly to the Roman Emperor that he had them killed, believing that they were disobedient to imperial commands. Soon after, Saint Sophia gave her soul back to God at her daughters’ tombs. The Icon depicts Saint Sophia together with her three daughters, their memories celebrated on September 17.
