Saint Paraskevi born on a Friday, she was a miracle birth to a childless family in 130 A.D.. She is known to go to Turkey and the surrounding areas to preach the word of God. The emperor Tarsus warned her to stop many times and being afraid she would convert people to Christianity he ordered her to be arrested. Still refusing to give up Christianity, she is ordered to be killed. The day of the execution she was ordered to be killed by putting her in a pot of boiling oil. She spends about an hour in the pot being untouched by the hot oil. Seeing this, the emperor screams, “it is not hot enough”. She then takes her fingers and dip them into the oil, she throws the oil in the face of the emperor rendering him blind. Screaming in pain and fear he begs her to restore his sight. She then puts her hands over his eyes and prays his eyesight to be restored. Thus she is known as the patron saint of eyes. In her beautiful icon you can see her holding the bowl with 2 eyes. Miracles of restored eyesight and childless women getting pregnant at her tomb are still happening to pilgrims to this day.
