Saint John was raised in respect and love for the Church of God. When he was of age, he was called to the military where he became a prisoner of war and a slave to the Turks. The prisoners endured humiliation and beatings by the Turks, in hopes they would convert. Saint John was loved and respected for his humility, benevolence, and his intense strength of faith. His kindness and gentle nature influenced the master as well as other slaves as he continued his life fulfilling his commands all while living his life in faith.
