Description
Saint Nina or Nino of Cappadocia, daughter to pious and noble parents; the Roman general Zabulon a relative of the great martyr St. George, and Susanna, sister of the patriarch of Jerusalem. Every day she prayerfully read the Holy Scripture, and her heart blazed with love for Christ, Who had endured the suffering of the Cross and death for the salvation of all. While studying the Gospels she felt the urge to find the earthly Robe of the Son of God and pleaded the Virgin Mary to help her visit the land of Iviron to worship the Robe. She appeared to Saint Nina in a dream and said, “Go to Iberia and tell there the Good Tidings of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and you will find favor before the Lord; and I will be for you a shield against all visible and invisible enemies. By the strength of this cross, you will erect in that land the saving banner of faith in My beloved Son and Lord.” The Virgin Mary offered her a Grapevine Cross and she preached around the 3rd century A.D. in Georgia. In the place the Robe was reserved she built the Church of Saint Stylos. Saint Nina is celebrated on January 14 Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church
